It's car show season in Door County, and this Saturday brings the annual Bayland Classic at Jim Olson Motors in Sturgeon Bay. Cars, trucks, motorcycles, and a variety of other vehicles will be on display from 8:00 am until mid-afternoon when trophies are awarded. The show is sponsored and hosted by Jim Olson Motors and Carquest of Door County, located right next door.
This show typically attracts over 100 vehicles and hundreds of visitors. Admission is free to the spectators, while the entry fee per vehicle is $5.00. There's music, trivia contest, food, and beverage that make this family-oriented event a lot of fun. Come and chat with people who love and know cars!
The first hundred participants entering a vehicle receive dash plaques and goodie bags. There are trophies for first, second, and third place for the following classes:
Thunderbirds - All 1967 & Earlier Corvettes 1968 to present Corvettes Convertibles Truck Stock Truck Modified Military Motorcycle - All Special Interest - All Foreign - All Mini Truck
The food and beverage concession benefits the local D.A.R.E. program, and Door County Sheriff's Department personnel do the cooking and serving. The
D.A.R.E. core curriculum, which targets fifth or sixth-grade elementary
school students from Southern Door Elementary School, Sevastopol
Elementary, Gibraltar Elementary, Washington Island Elementary, Saint
Peter and Paul Elementary and Corpus Christi Elementary School consists
of nine 45 minute lessons. These lessons are conducted by Juvenile
Investigator Chris Neuville on a weekly basis. These lessons are
structured, sequential and cumulative. A wide range of teaching
strategies are used which emphasize student participation, including
group discussion, questions and answer, along with role playing activities.
The
curriculum is designed to help students build refusal skills in
experimenting with illegal substances. In addition to these refusal
skills, the lessons focus on the development of self-esteem,
interpersonal and communication skills, risk assessment and decision-making skills, critical thinking, and the identification of positive
alternatives.
At the car show, there's also a drawing for a Door County Get-A-Way Package from Bridgeport Waterfront Resort.
Vendor spaces are available; contact Chum Nault at Jim Olson Motors at 920-743-4461.
