Dawn: Ready and Waiting for You to Adopt Me

Before reading about DAWN, we assure you that she is safe at Humane Society and we are working toward a happy ending for her.
On January 30, I was shoved into a pet carrier, driven to the corner of Sand Bay Road & Park Drive in Nasewaupee township, and dumped out into the ditch. The temperatures that day were 24 high and 8 low degrees. It was icy cold in that carrier with no escape from the wind. I cried for a long, long time hoping someone would hear me. What did I do? Why did my people decide this had to be my fate? Less than a mile from the Humane Society, and they wouldn’t go the distance.
Flash forward to April 5: From a cozy corner in the Cattery Coordinator’s office, hello! Now my name is DAWN…that’s an optimistic name, don’t you think? There is food here and warm blankets, and lots of other cats to talk with but no one has my story! Every day, a nice lady helps me take some pills to help cure an infection (she thinks I don’t know how craftily she hides them in some tuna fish).
When I went to the veterinarian, she saw that I have extra folds of skin around my genital area that makes it difficult to urinate and creates additional health issues. The vet recommends special surgery for me and this may be where you come in. Can you help defray a bit of the cost for this surgery? I am only 5 years old and have many good years ahead of me if together we can overcome these bacterial and anatomical issues. Please send good thoughts and maybe a couple dollars my direction, and I will be so grateful for your help.
Amy Vlies, DCHS cattery coordinator, will be happy to provide more information about our special needs cat Dawn. Please call Amy or DCHS Director Carrie Counihan at 920.746.1111. Email: cattery@dooranimals.com or carrie@dooranimals.com.
The Door County Humane Society is a 501 c 3 non-profit organization that depends on private donations to cover 95% of the annual budget. We care for the lost, homeless, and surrendered companion animals in a compassionate setting located at 3475 Park Drive, Sturgeon Bay. Please visit on Mon-Wed-Fri-Sat-Sun, noon to 4pm or www.dooranimals.com. Thank you!
