Jed the Redbone Coonhound is a Blue Collar Guy

Howdy, Travelers Journal pals. JED here. I’m what they call a Redbone Coonhound, but I’m really a blue collar guy. I want to work for my kibble as all hounds are expected to do. When I was found up around Valmy a couple months ago, I had lost my owner even though I had a tracking collar on. It was scary running out on Highway 57 until a kind person stopped and brought me to the shelter.
Now I’m here at the Humane Society where these folks also work really hard. They help all us dogs, and those darn cats as well. As a Redbone, I’m one of the large Coonhounds, coming in at about 80 lbs. Kids, adults, and other dogs … I’m happy with all those critters. But please don’t tempt me with a cat because it’s in my DNA to chase furry things.
I'm really a blue collar kind of guy!
Walking on a leash is a new experience for me, and the volunteer walkers are very patient in teaching me the proper manners for a walk. It’s just that I love getting out, sniffing the air and seeing what’s moving behind the next tree. I could walk and walk with you this summer, and never get tired. Or have the kids hide some liver treats in the yard, and I’ll go to work to sniff them out. Give me a challenge and I’ll love you forever.
