Join us for one of Door County's largest summer parties!
Salsa as a tasty condiment? Absolutely. Salsa as a style of Latin dancing? Of course. But the salsa that matters in Door County this summer combines the first two to create “Salsa for the Shelter” on Friday, August 3 in Sister Bay. “Salsa for the Shelter” is the most important fundraiser for the Door County Humane Society, and continues a dance-themed tradition set four years ago. Tickets are available now at a cost of $75 per person, with table sponsorships at $1000 including 8 tickets.

DCHS Executive Director Carrie Counihan explained, “We are the one organization in the community with the responsibility to care for lost and homeless animals. No cat or dog is ever turned away.

Only 5% of our annual $375,000 budget comes from governmental sources so we must raise all the rest privately. In 2009, the idea for a summer gathering entitled ‘Shimmy for the Shelter’ was such a success, we continued in 2010 with ‘Swing for the Shelter’. Last year we raised $40,000 in an amazing event called ‘Rockin’ for the Shelter’. This August, we’re going south of the border to help the shelter and put on the summer’s best party.”

Zesty preparations from some of Door County’s most recognized restaurants will combine with the rhythm and colorful style of salsa dancing in Waterfront Park. Music is supplied all evening by Madison-based band Que Flavor while salsa dancers offer instruction to those who are willing but out-of-practice in their dance steps. The ticket sales are capped at 250 total and they are starting to go quickly.

Lots of great eating at this event!
To purchase the $75 tickets, call the shelter at 920.746.1111 with credit card; mail a check to DCHS, PO Box 93, Sturgeon Bay WI 54235; or buy online through a personal PayPal account at www.dooranimals.com. Tickets also may be purchased at Sister Bay Trading on Highway 57 in Sister Bay.

Major sponsors for the evening are sought as well, and Counihan will provide more information about the levels available to support the Door County Humane Society, an adoption-guarantee shelter.
