The ceremony featured distinguished guests including former Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton and the Wellness Center’s Capital Campaign Co-chairs Shirley Senarighi and Vicki Wilson. Wellness Center staff was on hand to answer over seventy-five visitors’ questions as they toured the new location, and Door County Coffee and homemade baked goods were provided. “This is a place that offers affordable, confidential health care provided in an educational setting. They know that every visit is important and strive to expand a patient’s knowledge about how to better themselves and their families,” said Lt. Governor Barbara Lawton. Michele Geiger-Bronsky, executive director of the Wellness Center of Door County is thrilled about the opening of the new clinic. “I’m feeling exhilarated today. This celebration reaffirms theimportance of our work and the value of the services that we provide in this community.” The celebration completes phase one of the construction project, located immediately north of the old building on 5th Avenue in Sturgeon Bay. The Building Wellness Capital Campaign continues to raise funds as the second phase of construction will begin this fall. Once completed in March 2012, the size of the Wellness Center will be 8,800 square feet and include five exam rooms, one room for minor procedures and sexual assault exams, a conference room for group education, a drive-up window for prescription and supply pick-up, and a multi-purpose room for affordable physical activity classes and small group workshops. Local resident Susan Gigot-Klein is delighted about the new building. “It is so wonderful that they have expanded and serve the public so well. The new building is so welcoming and cheerful – I just love that.” Throughout the past year, the Wellness Center of Door County detailed the construction progress of the new building on its Facebook page (www.facebook.com/wellnesscenterdoorcounty). It will continue to track phase two until the grand opening of the completed center next spring.
