As the children left the nest, PAA recognized the need for a means of communication among the “family members.” And so the Peninsula Arts and Humanities Alliance (PAHA) was established. Serving as a resource for information about the arts in Door County, PAHA is an important support system for the member arts and humanities organizations. Today, PAHA embraces seventeen diverse organizations scattered throughout the county. Presenting exhibits, concerts, theatrical productions, lectures, nature walks, musical performances, and art classes throughout the year, PAHA defines Door County’s arts and humanities.
In a tribute to the members of PAHA, all of whom are non-profit organizations, the Link Gallery at the Door Community Auditorium is hosting an exhibit recognizing the contributions of these groups. From theatre in a garden to theatre under the stars, music in a barn and the music of strings, art plein air or art atelier, the members of PAHA are a delight to the senses.
PAHA has grown over the years, adapting to the peninsula’s ever-changing “scenery.” Some members have come…some gone…some names have changed…some remained ever-present. The current membership includes: American Folklore Theatre, Birch Creek Music Performance Center, The Clearing, Door Community Auditorium, Door County Art League, Door County Maritime Museum & Lighthouse Preservation Society, Door Shakespeare, Door County Visitor Bureau, Francis Hardy Center for the Arts, Island Players, Midsummer’s Music, The Miller Art Museum, Peninsula Art School, Peninsula Music Festival, Peninsula Players Theatre, The Ridges Sanctuary, Washington Island Art & Nature Center. The Ephraim Historical Foundation is an associate member.
The public is invited to visit the Link Gallery for a “Visual Tour of Peninsula Arts & Humanities Alliance,” and learn more about each of these unique organizations. Each one of them has an exciting 2009 schedule of events planned for every member of the family. “A Visual Tour of Peninsula Arts & Humanities Alliance” will continue through April 10. The Link Gallery at the Door Community Auditorium is open to the public Monday through Friday, 10 – 3 pm; weekend show days, 11 – 3 pm; and during all DCA performances and special events. The Door Community Auditorium is located in Fish Creek, just north of the town center on Highway 42.
