Skipper knows of many trails in our area ...
Dear Skipper,

My family loves Door County and we like to be outside.  What are your favorite places to hike in the area?  We would love some suggestions for nice nature spots to hike and explore.  Thanks!

Your friend,
Molly, age 9
Milwaukee, WI

Dear Molly,

You are in luck!  Door County is known for its beautiful nature spots and hiking trails!  There are so many that I don’t have one favorite trail ... I like to vary my hikes and visit as many parks and nature spots as possible.

You can research any of the following parks online for more details about them.  Some of my favorite parks and hiking trails are:  Cave Point County Park, Peninsula State Park, Newport State Park, Potawatomi State Park, Whitefish Dunes State Park, The Ridges Sanctuary, Crossroads at Big Creek and The Ahnapee Trail.

I can’t close my response without giving some helpful hiking safety tips!  Here are the top 5 tips for hiking with kids, from our friends at bukisa.com: 1) Wear proper shoes and clothing.  2) Bring a hiking stick.  3) Plan your route.  4) Bring healthy drinks and snacks.  5) Have a proper first aid kit.

Be sure not to forget to HAVE FUN!  Hiking is great exercise, very educational, and a great way to spend quality time with family and friends (not to mention a fun and beautiful way to be outdoors!).

See you on the trail!

Your friend,
Skipper
