Kids Ask Skipper - Is There Enough Family Stuff to Do in Door County?
By Skipper the Door County Otter

Our family is coming to Door County for a few days vacation in July. We are renting a cottage in Fish Creek. What do you recommend for us kids? My big brother Joey is 15, my sister Brianna is 12, and I have a little brother Sam, age 6. My parents aren't sure if there is enough to do for the whole family. What places do you enjoy for having fun and learning stuff? Where should we eat that is not too expensive?
Any advice you can give my family would be great.
I hope you have a nice spring, Skipper.
Love, Ashley, age 9

Dear Ashley,
It’s great that your family is coming up to Door County for a visit. I hope you will really enjoy your trip!
Tell your parents not to worry—there's plenty of things to do for the whole family.
Skyway Drive In
Going to the beach for the day is a fun—and free—option that everyone will enjoy. The Egg Harbor Beach is a beautiful one with clean sand and clear water. Door County is known for its beautiful beaches and there are several beaches within a 20 mile radius of Fish Creek. Another nature option is visiting a state park and taking a hike or renting a boat or bicycles there. Being outside in Door County in July is wonderful and there are so many fun outdoor things to do for all ages.
One way to eat that is not too expensive is going to a local grocery store or farmer’s market and buying food for a picnic. This is a way to eat fresh, healthy food in a way that is not too expensive. I personally think that homegrown tomatoes are fabulous! Also, preparing the meal(s) together can be a nice way for your family to spend time together. A few popular restaurants are Not Licked Yet (a fast and family-friendly place known for its wonderful custard!), Al Johnson’s Swedish Restaurant (great food and actual goats living on the roof!), and Wilson’s (a diner with fabulous ice cream!).
Some tourist favorites that are fun for all ages are The Skyway Drive-In movie theater, The Egg Harbor Fun Park, The Cana Island Lighthouse, The Door County Maritime Museum, Cave Point, The Noble House and The Farm. You can search all of these places online for more information.
Have a wonderful stay in Door County!
