Peninsula Music Festival Announces February Fest

The Peninsula Music Festival will present its annual chamber music series, February Fest, on Saturday, February 11 and Friday, February 17. The chamber music series was started to feature PMF orchestra musicians during the off season to highlight the depth of the talent in the Festival Orchestra as well as make concerts available to the local community during a quieter time on the Peninsula. The February Fest is made possible thanks to sponsorships from Doug Peterson and Joan E. Mills, Gen Follingstad, and the Peninsula Music Festival Sustaining Committee.
The concert on Saturday, February 11 will take place at the Peninsula School of Art at 3:00 p.m. Thomas Kluge, a member of the viola section of the Festival Orchestra will be joined by Amy Thieman, flute and Katie Wychulis, harp. All three musicians are active in the Omaha, Nebraska music community with Thomas and Amy both performing with the Omaha Symphony. The program for the concert will feature three famous trios: Elegiac Trio by Arnold Bax; Harald Genzmer’s Trio; and Sonata by Debussy. The concert will be followed by a reception to meet the musicians.

On Friday, February 17, associate conductor Stephen Alltop and soprano/violinist Josefien Stoppelenburg will present a program entitled The Music of Jane Austen. The 7:00 p.m. concert will take place at the Ephraim Moravian Church. This will be a program of

romance, humor and beautiful music celebrating the 200th anniversary of Sense and Sensibility, featuring composers loved by Jane Austen complimented by Stephen Alltop's historical narrative.
Jane Austen played the piano every day and this concert will highlight the music she loved and the music she played. The program includes the music of Beethoven, Schubert, Clementi, Handel and much more.

In addition to the concert, Stephen and Josefien will be at Gibraltar School to meet with the high school English classes who are reading Jane Austen. Each student will receive a copy of Sense and Sensibility as a gift from the Peninsula Music Festival.
General admission seating is just $30 per person, per concert. Student tickets are just $10. Reservations can be made on line at www.musicfestival.com or by calling the Festival office at 920-854-4060. No tickets are issued for these concerts. Names will be on a guest list at each concert.
The Peninsula Music Festival is a professional symphony orchestra that presents nine different symphonic concerts in three weeks each August in Door County, Wisconsin. Details on all the concerts and programs are available on the Festival’s website.
