Pianist Stewart Goodyear to Replace Inna Faliks
By Peninsula Music Festival
Aug 3, 2011 - 8:40:28 AM
Pianist Inna Faliks, originally scheduled to perform the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1 with the Festival Orchestra on Thursday, August 18, has cancelled. Ms. Faliks, who is eight months pregnant, had hoped to be able to fulfill this engagement. Without a doctor’s clearance to fly, Ms. Faliks was forced to cancel her appearance.
The Peninsula Music Festival was well aware that Ms. Faliks was pregnant and had a 'Plan B' ready just in case. Pianist Soojin Ahn was on hold in case she was needed. In the meantime, Soojin Ahn was offered a lucrative solo engagement with another orchestra around the same time. With just a 'may be needed' from the PMF, Ms. Ahn accepted the engagement with the full blessing of the Peninsula Music Festival.
With just three weeks until the scheduled appearance on August 18, Executive Director Sharon Grutzmacher started working the phones. “By this late date in the summer, most major soloists are booked at other Festivals or they are preparing for the upcoming fall openings of the symphony seasons across the country,” Ms. Grutzmacher commented. After a few hours of phone calls, she contacted Festival friend, pianist Stewart Goodyear at his home in Canada. With a bit of negotiating Mr. Goodyear happily agreed to assist the Festival and replace Inna Faliks on Thursday, August 18.
This will be Stewart Goodyear’s fifth appearance as soloist with the Peninsula Music Festival. He appeared in August 2010 when the Festival presented the world premiere of Mr. Goodyear’s Piano Concerto, commissioned by the Festival. Stewart Goodyear is an audience favorite and with his appearance, takes what could have been a disastrous situation, and turns it into another PMF concert night that cannot be missed.
The Thursday, August 18 concert features Liszt's Orpheus and the amazing Berlioz Symphonie fantastique as well as the Liszt Piano Concerto No. 1. The concert is at 8:00 p.m. at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. Tickets are available and can be purchased on line at www.musicfestival.com or by calling the Festival office at 920-854-4060.
This is the second change in guest artist for the August 2011 season. Violinist Ilya Kaler was replaced in early July by eighteen year old, Grammy nominated violinist Caroline Goulding. Ms. Goulding, the 2011 Avery Fisher Career Grant Winner, will be performing on Tuesday, August 16, 8:00 p.m. at the Door Community Auditorium. Tickets are also still available for this concert.
The 59th Season of the Peninsula Music Festival runs August 2 - 20 with concerts on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 8:00 and Saturdays at 6:30. All concerts take place indoors at the Door Community Auditorium in Fish Creek. Tickets for all concerts are available and can be purchase on line at www.musicfestival.com or by calling 920-854-4060.
