Seth Raddatz Headlines Door Community Auditorium Weekend Lineup
By Door Community Auditorium
Jan 18, 2012 - 8:57:07 AM
Door Community Auditorium’s popular winter event series is well underway and will continue this weekend with an intimate fireside concert on Saturday evening by popular local singer-songwriter Seth Raddatz, as well as a free movie showing on Friday night and a lecture about the U.S. educational system on Saturday morning.
Seth Raddatz will play in the DCA fireside lobby at 7 p.m. on Saturday, January 28. Door County audiences may recognize Seth Raddatz as the son of veteran local folksinger Mark Raddatz, but after writing and performing in Door County for several years, Seth has developed his own reputation and following on the peninsula. Influenced greatly by Neil Young, Conor Oberst, Mason Jennings, and Mark Raddatz, Seth’s songs reflect a passion for life at the same time as they acknowledge the universal hardships that life brings. He is currently recording a solo album due out in 2012. Tickets for Raddatz’s concert are $14, general admission.
50/50.
The weekend will also feature two other events, both of which are free to the public (though freewill donations are gladly accepted). The 2011 film 50/50 will be screened on Friday, January 27 at 7 p.m. Inspired by a true story, this poignant but funny movie centers around a 27-year-old man who is diagnosed with cancer and struggles to beat the disease. 50/50 stars Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt.
Robert Osgood.
Saturday morning (January 28) at 9 a.m., the DCA’s Distinguished Lecture series will offer a lecture entitled “U.S. Education and its Status in the World,” presented by Dr. Robert Osgood, Professor of Education and Chair of the Teacher Education Program at St. Norbert College. In response to recent attacks on the U.S. educational system for failing to produce globally competitive graduates, Dr. Osgood will examine some of the historical reasons for the structure of the U.S. educational system, as well as some of the difficulties in comparing American educational achievements to those of other nations.
The Coffeehouse concerts are sponsored by The Cordon Family Foundation with in-kind advertising support provided by The Lodge 106.9. The St. Norbert Distinguished Lectures are sponsored by Dahl Law Firm and Ross Estate Planning with in-kind advertising and lodging support provided by AppleCreek Resort, DoorCountyDailyNews.com, Homestead Suites and Landmark Resort. Movies at the Door are sponsored The English Inn and Hart & Hart Ladies Apparel & Sterling Silver Jewelry. Refreshments from Base Camp Coffee Shop will be available for purchase at both Professor Osgood’s lecture and Seth Raddatz’s concert. The Door Community Auditorium box office, located on Highway 42 in Fish Creek, is open Monday-Friday, 12-5 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person, on the phone at (920) 868-2728, or online at www.dcauditorium.org.
