Did you know that there's a new club for VW enthusiasts in Door and Kewaunee counties and beyond? There is. Spawned by the loneliness Doris often feels for other VWs and by the zeal of her owners, the Peninsula VW Club started its engines in 2009!
The club is open to all and is an informal group that meets periodically, with or without their VW ride. Doris, depicted in the club's logo, serves as honorary social director, while her owners, Steve Allen and Alan Kassien, do the organizing, at least until someone else steps forward.

The club's first event of the summer season is called "Rally 'Round the Lights" and is held in conjunction with the Annual Door County Lighthouse Walk. VWs of all vintages and types and VW enthusiasts of all ages are welcome to join the fun. The majesty of Door County's historic lighthouses will be graced by an elegant entourage of one of the world's most loved automobiles. New or vintage, VWs rule!

Join Doris and her friends from Saturday, June 13, 2009 for "Rally 'Round the Lights". The Lighthouse Walk is a self-guided, countywide tour of six mainland lighthouses. It's one of the most popular Door County events. June is a gorgeous month on the Peninsula and marks the start of another great visitor season.
Bring your VW! If you can't, bring yourself. We'll find you a ride in a VW. The official rally itself takes place on Saturday. "Rally 'Round the Lights" is a bit of a parade in a circular route, stopping for a short time at several Door County Lighthouses along the route. We'll stop at a special place for lunch. This will be a fun and relaxing way to participate in two events at the same time! Your VW will enjoy the company of like-minded volks. You need not be a member of Peninsula VW Club to participate in this charter event of the club. However, you're very welcome to join the organization on that day.

Participants will gather on Saturday morning at 9:00 am and set out for the first stop, the Sturgeon Bay Coast Guard Canal Station. Proceding northeast up the gorgeous shoreline we'll reach stop 2, Cana Island Light. Stop 3 is Eagle Bluff Light in Peninsula State Park. A lunch/picnic stop will take place, possibly at the Nicolet Bay Beach pavilion, right on the Green Bay shore. Lunch fare is available. The fourth and final stop will be at Sherwood Point Lighthouse, just south of Sturgeon Bay. At the lighthouses, participants can walk the grounds of each property and soak up the history of Door County's fabled beacons. Photo opportunities abound!
