Young Volunteers to Put on Mr. Door County Fundraiser
By Allie Rittle
Apr 26, 2011 - 8:50:00 AM
The members of the
Door County Rotary Interact Club have big goals this spring. In hopes to raise enough money to fund
their own well in Africa, the club is planning and preparing for a "Mr. Door
County Pageant" and raffle that they will be hosting in May.
All of the money
raised at the pageant and raffle will go straight to the charitable
organization “A Drop in the Bucket” that builds wells and water systems in very
needy countries.Water is an
essential part of our lives here in the United States and is something that
everyone utilizes and most people take for granted. The members of the club want to do their part in helping
everyone to have clean, healthy, accessible water to drink and use all over the
world.
Mr. Door County?
This is the third pageant that the club has
planned and hosted over the past several years, each one to benefit a different
organization, and they have all been successful. Six to eight local high school-aged boys will compete in three areas at the “competition”: talent, fashion,
and question and answer.All of
the contestants will participate in a choreographed dance as the judging is
happening.At the end of the
night, there will also be a raffle with great items from businesses all around
Door County.
The
pageant is taking place on Friday, May 13th at 7:00 at the Sturgeon
Bay High School Auditorium.Tickets are $7 and will be sold that night at the door. To support the club by helping them with their goal, come
enjoy a fun night of family friendly entertainment and laughs as local high
school boys compete for the title of “Mr. Door County”.
Door County Rotary Interact Club
Since
the club’s goal is very lofty, they are also working on a joint project to
raise more funds.The students
have constructed and painted 55 wooden water buckets, which will be traveling
around Door County for the next several weeks, raising money for the well. If a
bucket is placed in your yard, it means that a friend who may have donated to
the cause is passing it along. When you have a bucket in your yard, you can
decide whose house the bucket will go to next.
Donating
is optional, but please be kind and pass the bucket on to someone else. The
faster the buckets travel around town, the more awareness it raises for “A Drop
in the Bucket”. If you do not find a bucket in your yard and would still like
to donate, you can send a check to the address listed below. Please help the
club raise money for clean, healthy, accessible water for people around the
world by either making a donation or coming to the Mr. Door County Pageant and
Raffle in May.
