How to Build (or not) and Sail (or not) Your Sikaflex Challenge Boat
By Steve Allen
Aug 3, 2011 - 8:51:30 AM
On Saturday, August 6, boat building teams will spend the morning building their little wooden
boats. They'll use Sikaflex to hold them together. Later these gallant sailors take to the
water, and they hope that the water doesn't take them. You're probably wondering what Sikaflex really is. Well, you'll see it being used to seal up the pieces of the boats in the accompanying video. Unless you're really into boatbuilding, that's all you need to know, and you can skip the next paragraph.
Sikaflex-290DC is a one-component UV-resistant polyurethane-based joint
sealing compound specially formulated for caulking joints in traditional
timber marine decking. The compound cures to form a flexible elastomer
which can be sanded. Sikaflex info
And now, the training video. Crank up your computer speakers and watch boatbuilding and sailing at its finest ... or not!
