The Door County Maritime Museum Classic & Wood Boat Festival is making its annual call for entries and this year that includes a new event as the festival adds a Maritime Mart for those wishing to sell nautical materials, including arts & crafts. The festival is scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 6 & 7 and annually features a remarkable assortment of vessels with judges awards for power, sail and self-powered boats. Festival attendees will also vote for People’s Choice award winners on the Saturday of the show. Registration materials are available at the museum, 120 N. Madison Ave., Sturgeon Bay, or you can register online at www.dcmm.org.

The Sikaflex Challenge boat building competition returns with construction on Saturday and the race on Sunday. Half of the field of 10 two-person teams is already filled. Again, participants are restricted in the amount of material and tools they can use during construction. Visit or contact the museum at 920-743-5958 for rules and registration materials. Entry is free for both the boat entries and the Sikaflex event. The Maritime Mart incorporates elements of a nautical flea market with an arts & crafts fair. However, arts & crafts are restricted to works with a maritime theme. Booths will be situated in a high visibility location adjacent to the main gate. A 10-ft.x10-ft. space can be reserved for $50 by contacting the Museum.

“Paint the Bay” returns in 2010. Area artists are invited to participate in the plein air painting event beginning Saturday with artists spreading out along the shores of Sturgeon Bay. Works must have a maritime theme and be completed and returned to the festival grounds by 1 p.m. A silent auction follows in the museum with proceeds going to the artist and the museum. Entry fee is $10 and forms to pre-register are available at the museum or online. Registrations will also be taken beginning at 8 a.m. the morning of the event at which time all the artists’ medium will be stamped and artists will be released to begin painting.
