Egg Harbor's Annual Pumpkin Patch Festival is
one of the best events in Door County for kids. It's held in early October in downtown Egg Harbor. Going strong now for
about two decades, Pumpkin Patch seems to have become synonymous with
colorful fall fun on the Peninsula. People come from all over the
Midwest and beyond, year after year, to soak in the feeling this busy
event imbues. They eat, play, relax, and depart with cheer. Children are
major participants in this festival.
Kids truly
love Pumpkin Patch Festival, plain and simple. Why? Perhaps for them
it's sort of a two-day mini version of Disney World or Great America.
There is no Mickey Mouse or Hurricane Harbor Water Park to be found, but
kids will have plenty to keep them enthused all weekend long. It's
about lots of cool things going on, lots of delicious food, lots of
sights to see, lots of rides, and lots of just plain fun to be had!

lasting memories in the minds of its many participants, which included

later in this article to find out!
Sunset Park in Sturgeon Bay was a great place to be on Saturday,
August 27. The weather was perfect, with temperatures in the high 70's,
partly sunny skies, and a light breeze.
A rare opportunity to view historic 19th century industrial farm complex
On Saturday, August 27 the Egg Harbor Historical Society will host a
picnic on the grounds of the historic Horseshoe Bay Barns to celebrate
Egg Harbor's 150th anniversary. All those interested in Door County's
history and preserving our stories for future generations are invited to
attend.
Former employees and friends of Horseshoe Bay Farms, one of the county's
most picturesque buildings, will conduct tours of the 10 building
complex.
On Saturday, August 6, boat building teams will spend the morning building their little wooden
boats. They'll use Sikaflex to hold them together. Later these gallant sailors take to the
water, and they hope that the water doesn't take them. You're
probably wondering what Sikaflex really is. Well, you'll see it being
used to seal up the pieces of the boats in the accompanying video. It
comes in a tube, much like regular caulk compound, and it's white and
gooey. It makes the little craft watertight if applied correctly.
The
Door County Maritime Museum is building off the "Boats, Books &
Brushes" theme it introduced two years ago at this year's Classic &
Wooden Boat Festival as it continues to broaden its appeal beyond the
collection of interesting and stunning vessels it attracts each summer. There
will still be plenty of boats on the museum grounds in Sturgeon Bay the
weekend of Aug. 6-7 and the ever-popular Sikaflex Challenge boat
building competition returns for its two-day run, but some new elements
have been added to entertain and educate all ages.

in size, but big in spirit! DISCOVER CARLSVILLE DAY, held on the last
Saturday in July, is their annual festival featuring tours of an
award-winning winery and operating dairy farm, as well as food, live
music, games for kids, a parade, a doggie contest, arts and crafts and a
Wild West Reenactment.
In
an effort to better celebrate the area's rich maritime heritage the
Door County Maritime Museum, Sturgeon Bay Visitor's Center, City of
Sturgeon Bay Coast Guard Committee and Sturgeon Bay Yacht Club are
bringing together a collection of loosely associated events to create
the first annual Sturgeon Bay Maritime Festival. The festival includes
many long-standing annual events along with new and exciting activities
to help honor local Coast Guard personnel and their families for their
service and many contributions to the community.

Viva la Cottage is a contented blend of some things old and some things
new, a combination of vintage and contemporary that works well for owner Angie
McMahon. "I love vintage and visiting vintage markets, especially those that
have a flair for displaying their wares in unusual ways, demonstrating how to
blend vintage items in new ways," she explained.
And on Saturday, July 9th, McMahon will share her enthusiasm
for everything vintage in an all-day market amid the gardens surrounding her
shop in Sister Bay.
The
Door County Maritime Museum Classic & Wood Boat Festival is making
its annual call for entries and this year that includes a new event as
the festival adds a Maritime Mart for those wishing to sell nautical
materials, including arts & crafts. The festival is

Time to mark the calendar for another festival happening
this summer in Door County! This one is for the Town of Egg Harbor. Not
to be confused with the Village of Egg Harbor, the "town" is actually
the township of Egg Harbor and encompasses quite a bit of rural area
adjacent to the village and beyond.
This event is the official Sesquicentennial Celebration commemorating the founding of the
Town of Egg Harbor. There will be a parade starting at 10:00 am, food, fun and games. In
celebration of the Town of Egg Harbor's 150th birthday, local bands will
perform at the Town Hall, located on County I, just one mile east of
Carlsville.

Monday, March 21. The festival returns to the second weekend in June
with activities planned from Friday-Sunday, June 10-12.
St. Patrick's Day 2011 in Sturgeon Bay saw a large parade downtown. Big snowflakes started falling and reminded all celebrants that winter was certainly not over. A fun parade it was, and the sea of green was pleasant on the eyes.

A
new winter festival is coming to Door County! It will take place in Egg
Harbor, known for Pumpkin Patch Festival, New Year's Parade, and Frosty Fest. Including
an ice fishing tournament, snowmobile poker run and dance, Winter
Harbor Madness will be held on Saturday, January 15, 2011, Martin Luther
King Jr. weekend.
The Egg Harbor New Year's Parade has been a happening for over thirty years. How many places have a parade on such a day? Isn't that day reserved for football, recovery from New Year's Eve, and generally schlepping around at home and accomplishing little? Not so in the charming village of
EggHarbor, Wisconsin, a place which suddenly comes to life on January 1 in the early afternoon. In fact, it celebrates life,
DoorCounty style. So how did this parade get its start? A short history lesson begins the story of one of Wisconsin's most interesting parades.
Door
County will soon have a brand new festival to add to the ever-growing
roster of fun things to do on the Peninsula. Granted, there are not many
festivals and the like during the winter months, but over the past
decades the list has grown.
Egg Harbor's new Frosty Fest is the
latest foray into the concept of a winter gathering in this magical
place. It's actually not a brand new offering for this particular day in
this particular village. For more than 30 years, Egg Harbor has hosted a
New Years Parade.
Don't
miss Ephraim's Christmas in the Village event on Saturday, December 4,
2010! Many of the activities take place in or near the Ephraim Village
Hall, right downtown. The moment you step inside this wonderful old
building, you'll feel the spirit of Christmas past. A popular annual
event, you'll find lots of arts and crafts available, with artisans
often demonstrating their techniques. There's also cookie decorating and
heritage games in the afternoon.
Warm up your holiday spirit, tune
up your caroling voice, bundle up the kids and join the festivities at Sister
Bay's Capture the Spirit event, Nov. 26 & 27!
The village lights will glow
brightly Friday, Nov. 26 beginning at
4:30 p.m. with the lighting of luminaries
around downtown and the Village Christmas
tree and star at the corner of Mill Road and N. Bay Shore Dr. (Hwy. 42). Father Christmas will bring good
tidings and merriment to all with his arrival and as he leads the children to
the Sister Bay/Liberty Grove Library for
storytelling and crafts, after the tree lighting. Light refreshments will
be served at the tree lighting. The Door
County Trolley will offer free rides around the village to shoppers and
visitors from 3:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.
Children and their families descend upon the Landmark Resort every year on the day after Thanksgiving to spend some time with Santa Claus and to enjoy a delicious breakfast buffet along with this famous guy. The event is a tradition that highlights Egg Harbor's Holly Days, which includes a tree lighting in Harbor View Park late Friday afternoon.
Leaves of golden yellow, fire orange and crimson red are dangling from the trees, signaling autumn's arrival, and with the change of seasons, the time to enjoy the fruits of another successful summer. The 65th annual Sister Bay Fall Fest is October 15, 16 and 17, 2010 throughout the Village of Sister Bay in beautiful northern Door County.
Yes,
Doris got the bug to get up to Pumpkin Patch and see what's what at this
major Door County festival. In fact, she found herself decorated with
all kinds of nasty pumpkin bugs on the first day of Egg Harbor's Annual
Pumpkin Patch Festival. She spent the two-day extravaganza at the
Dovetail Gallery on the north end of the village.
Doris
was hosted by Dovetail owners Kathleen Mand Beck and husband Tom Mand.

Jefferson Street in Sturgeon Bay is the venue for a small but fun Saturday festival in July. On the city's northside, this street has a large number of small shops and galleries on both sides, often referred to as the Jefferson Street Shops. You can't miss them if you're headed out of town, since this is the main drag and flows into Egg Harbor Road and then back to Highway 42/57 north. It doesn't take a long time to capture the essence of the fest.
There's going to be a brand new event in Door County starting in 2010. A Renaissance Fantasy Faire will be held June 26 - 27 and July 3 - 4, 2010 at the Gerald Keuhn farm. The location is just north of Carlsville on Monument Point Road. Plans include horseback activities including jousting, customed players depicting the 16th century, and craft and vendor booths. The family-friendly festival is to be modeled after the Renaissance Faire that has been staged for many many years near the Wisconsin-Illinois border.

"Wine is sunlight held together by water." ~ Galileo
In 1976, the world of wine was turned upside down when California beat France in a blind taste test. It began with a dream, turned into perfection of process, a few other events that turned nicely into a "based on a true story" movie, and resulted in a chardonnay that rocked the foundation of wine culture. "You mark my words," Alan Rickman (as sommelier Steven Spurrier) states, "we’ll be drinking wines from South American, Australia, New Zealand, Africa, India, China ... this is not the end ... this is just the beginning."
