Trails

All hiking and biking trails are open.

The last of the trilliums are in bloom, and morel season is coming to an end. Gaywings, wood anemone, large-flowered trillium, yellow violets, and wood violets are now in bloom at Potawatomi, and wild columbine and Canada mayflowers should be blooming next week.

Nature Programs

Events and Nature Programs at Potawatomi and all state parks are listed on the DNR Events Calendar.

  • Saturday, May 28: Wildflower and Water Walk, Campground Shelter, 4-4:45 p.m. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the park's shoreline and Tower Trail while discovering the secrets of Door County's spring flowers.
  • Saturday, May 28: Folk Music Under the Stars, Amphitheater, 7:30 p.m. Bring a blanket and your singing voice for an evening of traditional favorites with musician Charlene Orffeo.
  • Sunday, May 29, Wildflower and Water Walk, Campground Shelter, 11 - 11:45 a.m. Enjoy a leisurely walk along the park's shoreline and Tower Trail while discovering the secrets of Door County's spring flowers.
  • Saturday, June 4, Honeysuckle Removal Day. 9 am - Noon. The park's shoreline has been overtaken in places by non-native honeysuckle shrubs. Last year, large areas of the shoreline were cleared of the shrubs, allowing native plants to thrive and opening up views of the bay. Come help the Friends of Potawatomi State Park finish this important project. No experience required. Equipment provided. Meet at the Picnic Area Shelter.

Fishing

Buoys have been set in Sawyer Harbor marking the deepest channel out for boats. Launching piers are in place at the Sawyer Harbor boat launch area.

Fishermen launching at the park are having some luck catching small mouth bass, perch, and walleye.

Camping

All family and group sites are open for the season. The accessible cabin, shower building, and sanitary dump station are also open.

Sites may be reserved for dates up to 11 months in advance.

Firewood Notice: Due to the potential of carrying harmful emerald ash borers, firewood from out of state or from more than 25 miles away is not allowed on Wisconsin State Park or Forest properties. Also, firewood that has been in the Wisconsin emerald ash borer quarantined area [PDF 102KB] is not allowed on properties outside of the quarantined area. Please buy firewood at or near the park or forest where you are going. Call the DNR toll-free Firewood Hotline, (877) 303-WOOD; (877) 303-9663) for information before packing for a trip.

More information

Please use the self-registration station for vehicle admission stickers and camping registration if you arrive at the park after the office closes. Office hours are generally 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with additional hours beginning Memorial Day weekend.
