A new lady named Doris has recently joined our team here at DoorCountyTravelersJournal.com. And what a special staff member she is! We're thrilled she has accepted her new position, which has primary responsibility for searching out interesting Door County places and people and transporting our writers and photographers to them. As we get busier with our publication, we sure could use the help! Doris started work on July 5, 2008. She comes to us with a wonderful travel background. Here's a short bio on Doris.

Doris lived near Anaheim but had often dreamed of being a Hollywood star
Doris began her life late in 1960 (she's actually a '61 VW Sedan ... shh) in Wolfsburg, Germany. Wanderlust prevailed almost immediately, and she eagerly shipped out for America. She took the leisurely scenic route across the Atlantic Ocean, through the Panama Canal, and eventually got off her ship in California. She spent her first 44 years in that fine state, living most of it with a college boy she met. The pair became close but sadly parted ways after a number of exciting years traveling together. She then spent some time with another gentleman in California. But Doris' wanderlust re-emerged, and she headed for Wisconsin. She'd heard a lot about Door County and how it had become such a national vacation destination ... so she thought to herself, why not hang out there in middle age?

Once in awhile Doris went out to the coast to see the big waves!
Before saying her goodbyes to the gold rush state, the state of so much variety, the state of giant waves and surfer dudes, Doris decided it was high time for a face lift, some other bodily cosmetic work, and some serious tinkering with her ticker. Then she put on her blue makeup and departed a new woman, ready to face the Midwest with deep pride. She looked, sounded, and felt really great.

Doris settled just north of Sturgeon Bay, where she took up residence with Frank and Lynn. She just loved going to car shows and buzzing about the peninsula on glorious spring, summer, and fall days. She'd never seen the fantastic colors of fall, so October was a real treat for her! Pumpkin Patch Festival in Egg Harbor became one of her favorite venues.

After three fine years with Frank and Lynn, Doris thought it was high time she struck out on a new adventure. Always a fun-loving lady, she decided she wants to investigate the county from Gills Rock to Brussels, from the Olde Stone Quarry Park to Newport State Park. After all, a girl just wants to have fun, right? This goal should be no problem as Doris helps us in our quest for Door County places that are off the beaten path. Well, some may be on the path as well. However, it may take a few years to get to all the places she has in mind.

Doris will have to get used to Kelly, our staff mascot, going along on some of her adventures. Shown here is his first time with Doris; they seem to get along just fine. Kelly loves this county, especially the state and county parks.

From Bay Shore Drive to Glidden Drive, from Northport  to Sturgeon Bay,  Doris' quest for a memorable Door County experience will likely take her all over the countryside. We suppose she'll want to hop the ferry at Northport and have a look-see at Washington Island. She'll have to pass on a Rock Island visit (sigh). She's a big girl and the trails are pretty narrow.

Watch for Doris. She wants to be in car shows and parades too. If you see her, wave or honk!
