Spring
has sprung early, and many of Wisconsin’s volunteer Adopt-a-Highway
(AAH) crews are springing into action, picking up a winter’s worth of
unsightly trash along state highways. Along with helping keep our
roadsides clean and green, Wisconsin’s dedicated AAH workers make the
state an even more attractive destination for travelers while saving
taxpayer dollars. Last year, Wisconsin AAH groups picked up over 156
tons of trash that was then disposed of by county highway crews.
Local actors study scripts for upcoming dinner theater gig.
A group of local actors from across the peninsula is in
rehearsal for a new style dinner-theater show in time for St. Patrick’s Day.
“All Over But the Shooting” is a fun, campy play in true
dinner theatre, “whodunit” fashion. The audience is invited to participate and help solve the mystery, as
cast members mingle.The audience
members who correctly guess “whodunit” will be entered in a drawing for a gift
certificate prize at each performance.
Celebrate
the start of the new year while contributing to a great cause! From
9:00 am until noon on New Year’s Day, the Door County Humane Society
is inviting area residents and visitors to kick off 2012 with a hearty
breakfast feast at Ellison Bay’s popular Mink River Basin.

pre-game show as the Packers go after the Lions! Humane Society

Ellison
Bay is holding its annual Fall Art Crawl on Saturday, October 22
starting at 10:00 am, running through Sunday, October 23 at 1:00 pm. Nine
Art Galleries and Schools in Ellison Bay host their Fall Art Crawl
featuring guest artists, demonstrations and new work for the Holidays
along with creative and tasty treats along the way. Maps will be available at all the locations. Here's the list:
It's
easy to get to the newly-chartered Cowboy Church of Northern Door. Find
Uncle Tom's and drive north on Timberline Road to 12376 Timberline Road,
where you will see a sign welcoming all to the non-denominational, 'No
Barrier' Cowboy Church.
The
Cowboy Church of America has a rich tradition of meeting the spiritual
needs of cowboys and rodeo riders and people traveling who can't always
find their church.
Current site of Newport House was Ellison Bay Post Office years ago.
North
of Sister Bay you will find a vibrant and thriving artist community in
Ellison Bay. Pottery, Asian art, leather, fabric, folk art, along with a
used book store, a general store, restaurants and a coffee shop with
local artist's work on the walls and two schools and soon the Ellison
Bay cider House are all housed in historic structures. Taking pre-loved
buildings and repurposing them seems to be a natural extension of the
creative mind and you will find that in abundance in Ellison Bay.
One
of our favorite restaurants in Ellison Bay, and Door County, for that
matter, is The Viking Grill. And it's not because of the family style
fish boils, either. It's because we love their breakfasts, lunches and
dinners.
Last
year on September 1, The Viking Grill had a kitchen fire which closed
the restaurant until April 1, 2011. There were no injuries, and for
that, all were grateful. But still, the employees and patrons of this
comfortable eatery were left in the dust, so to speak.
Once
the clean up and re-building began, photos and updates were posted
faithfully on Facebook. It was certainly a learning experience for us to
follow the process of recovery from a fire.
This weekend, May 21 and 22, eight galleries and two schools of Ellison Bay encourage everyone to come and experience the art of living well. The participants of the Ellison Bay Arts Spring Art Crawl will share with you just how a piece of art affects and improves daily life. You will have a chance to find something to take home that was made by one of these unique and talented artists.
Door County has so many stories. Many of them explain the whys and where-fors of the names of roads or businesses or towns. One story reveals the truth of Gills Rock Stoneware in Ellison Bay and demonstrates just how creative people can turn a possible negative into a charming story.
