Nick and his family lived here in the lighthouse for a whole week!

Hi, my name is Nick. My family and I stayed in the Potawatomie Lighthouse on Rock Island this summer. This is what it was like.
First we took the car ferry to Washington Island. One thing you should know about Washington Island is that everyone waves at you. Next we took another smaller ferry over to Rock Island. Once we got to the island we loaded our gear onto the DNR's four wheeler and rode to the lighthouse along a small dirt path. This was a highlight of the trip!
Rock Island is about two miles long and has great trails for hiking. On the southern end there is a beautiful sand beach and campground. On the northern end is the lighthouse. No one lives on Rock Island.
The Potawatomi Lighthouse is very majestic. It was built in 1858 and there is no electricity in it. I ended up reading around six books during that week. We also played games a lot. It was my job to raise and lower the American flag and the lighthouse flags. I also had to hail passing ships with the flags! All in all, my favorite part of the day was sunset due to the spectacular view.

My brother Ben's favorite thing was being able to meet new people as a docent and giving tours of the lighthouse. My brother Harry liked everything.
So all in all we had a pretty good time, met some people, and added another good vacation spot to our list. Most of all we had a lot of fun!
