Skipper's Word Challenge - Contest #2
By Skipper the Door County Otter and Sponsored by Sound Expressions
Dec 21, 2011 - 8:58:24 AM
Hi
Everyone! It's Skipper here, Door County's born and bred (and beloved, I
might add) otter. Welcome to my new column: "Skipper's Word Challenge".
I hope you enjoy it ... this is my second one.
Readers and friends are always asking me questions about Door County
life outdoors, places to go, things to see, not to mention social advice
like getting along with others and how to stay out of trouble. Now it's
my turn to ask YOU the questions. Yep, I'm going to make you do some
brainwork in these columns! It's all about cool words and their
meanings.
Here's how "Skipper's Word Challenge" works:
I'll ask you to tell me the correct meaning of a word. It's that easy.
Well, maybe not, since the words are probably not ones you have heard a
lot. That's where the brainwork comes in. Try to figure out which of the
four multiple-choice answers is correct. One is correct and the others are,
well, fake. They are written to fool you! If you get the definition of
the word correct, you win. If I fool you and you choose an incorrect
answer, I win.
OK, so how would I ever know what you picked for an answer? Well, that's
easy. You'll have ten days to figure it out and email me with your
answer. I have my very own email address, which goes like this:
skipper
(at) doorcountytravelersjournal (dot) com. Huh? Well, I do have to
write my email in a sort of code so that those nasty and evil internet
spider robots that look for emails to send junk mail to don't get mine!
But I know how smart you guys are, so I think you'll figure this out!
So,
since I want this to be kind of a fun game, I'm going to give you a
chance to win a hot cup of coffee or hot chocolate if your emailed
answer is correct! That's right, your correct answer is entered into a
drawing with any others for a free hot refreshment at Door County Coffee
& Tea in Carlsville! Now how cool is that? It's not ... it's HOT.
I will personally announce the winners in the next column I write. But
if you are one of my Facebook Fans, you'll know sooner! Just be sure to
"LIKE" this page, the DoorCountyTravelersJournal.com Facebook Fan Page.
Last issue the word was "carfindo". The correct answer was: 3) A ship's carpenter from the word "carf", meaning a notch in wood. Guess what ... no one got it right, so I win that round! This week's word is: "mangelwurzel"
Pick your answer from these four choices:
1) A rodent found primarily on the continent of Africa.
2) A machine used to iron bedsheets in the early 1900's.
3) A special wartime sausage made from beets.
4) A big beet fed to cows.
Door County Coffee & Tea, Carlsville.
Good
luck everybody! Thanks for playing my new game! Answers are due in my
email box no later than 5:00 pm on Monday, January 2, 2012.
All correct answers will be automatically entered into my drawing for
that hot beverage at Door County Coffee & Tea in Carlsville, Door
County!
