Door Shakespeare Welcomes Dramatist Joseph Hanreddy
By Door Shakespeare
Jun 29, 2011 - 8:44:24 AM
Door Shakespeare
will welcome Dramatist Joseph Hanreddy as a special guest at the July 14th
performance of Pride and Prejudice. He and collaborator JR Sullivan
originally adapted Jane Austen’s novel for the stage of the Milwaukee Repertory
Theatre.
“Jane Austen’s
brilliance is her insight into the chemistry that makes connections between men
and women enduring or passing,” Hanreddy commented. “We can be our own worst
enemies as we try to attain happiness in love.”
The authors faced
a major challenge dramatizing a 400-page novel with a large cast of
characters. Their goal, Hanreddy said,
was “to be faithful to the spirit of what Jane Austen wrote, while also
creating a dramatic entertainment that would be funny, compelling and moving.”
Prior to the July
14th performance, audience members will have the opportunity to meet and ask
questions of the playwright at the first of six Wine Nights at Door
Shakespeare.
At these events
patrons are offered a selection of wines from around the world, provided by L’eft
Bank Wine Company and served hors d’ouvres created by Door County Private Chef
Dorothy Lopez. At intermission
participants in the Wine Night festivities will be treated to coffee and
cheesecake bites provided by Cheesecake, Etc. Local
musicians, including Hans Christian, George Sawyn and Rändi Fay, will
perform.
In the spirit of Pride and Prejudice, Door Shakespeare
will be offering a series of six formal afternoon teas that include sandwiches, scones, and other
sweets. Guests may chat with costumed cast members over tea. The Monday events are scheduled from 3
to 5 pm on July 11, 25 and August 8 at the Harbor Fish Market and Grille in
Baileys Harbor; Saturday afternoon, on July 16, 30 and August 13 at the Top of
the Hill Café in Fish Creek.
Opening on July 8th
Door Shakespeare presents Pride and
Prejudice Monday, Thursday, Saturday; and Twelfth Night Sunday, Tuesday, and Friday. For tickets or more
