Go Behind the Scenes for an Exclusive Look at "God of Carnage" at Peninsula Players
By Penninsula Players
Sep 14, 2011 - 8:41:33 AM
Since 1935, Peninsula Players has been entertaining and delighting Door County audiences in Fish Creek, Wisconsin. In conjunction with its fall season the Players will offer public tours of its stage house and all-weather audience pavilion. Free backstage tours will begin at 2 p.m. Sundays, Sept. 18, Sept. Sept. 25. and Oct. 2.
"Patrons have the rare opportunity to go backstage and glimpse into the life of an actor by visiting the dressing rooms and set of 'God of Carnage,'" said Audra Baakari Boyle, Players Business Manager. “In addition to learning the history of Peninsula Players, guests may walk on the set. Being on stage is a very different experience than seeing a show from a seat in the audience. When one goes backstage and into the living room of the Novaks of Brooklyn they can get a feel for what this contemporary couple is like. Our scenic designer and props master went into intricate detail to dress the set to express the spirit and character of the family who lives there.”
The Peninsula Players wraps up its 76th season with “God of Carnage” by Yasmina Reza, translated by Christopher Hampton. “God of Carnage” was awarded the Olivier Award for Best New Comedy, the Outer Critics Circle and Drama League Award for Best Play. Reza’s previous work includes the award-winning “Art,” and both plays have been translated into more than 20 languages. Two sets of savvy parents meet to discuss a playground incident in which their boys were involved. As the evening progresses, tensions build and the parents become involved in a laugh-out-loud train wreck filled with tantrums and name-calling.
“Patrons are curious about what goes on behind-the-scenes including the work our company does on each of our shows,” said Baakari Boyle. “As part of our mission, we want to educate the public on the working life of a professional theater and in saying that, we want to give the public an opportunity to see for themselves our work environment; hence, the backstage tours. We also want to give patrons an opportunity to ask questions surrounding the 76-year history of Peninsula Players.”
Those interested in a backstage tour should phone the box office to reserve a spot on a tour as space is limited and available on a first-come first-served basis. “We can accommodate 20 to 25 guests per group,” Baakari Boyle said.
Peninsula Players is a non-profit theater and a member of Actors’ Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers, and employs professional actors for all of its productions. Company members work in regional theaters from Los Angeles to New York, as well as in film, television and radio.
To purchase tickets, to reserve a spot on the backstage tour, or for more information phone the Players’ box office at 920-868-3287.
