"The Fox on the Fairway" is a charming screwball adventure about love, life, and man's eternal love affair with ... golf. Two rival country clubs, Quail Valley and Crouching Squirrel, prepare for their annual grudge match. A massive private wager is made between the two CEOs just before the best player switches teams. Filled with mistaken romance, dreadful attire, emotional mulligans and silly shenanigans, “The Fox on the Fairway” is a “tour-de-course” of rapid-fire chip shots and frenzied miscommunications. Fortunato is making her directorial debut at the Players but has many stage credits with the company as an actor and choreographer. Tensions fly when Henry Bingham’s wife, whom he describes as “Lady Voldemort, She of Darkness,” learns the massive bet not only involves cash, but her beloved antique shop. Muriel Bingham is played by Players veteran Maggie Carney whose credits include “Unnecessary Farce,” “Cabaret,” “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure” and the one-woman play “The Lady with All the Answers.” She has performed regionally at BoarsHead, La Jolla Playhouse and Northlight. Lee E. Ernst, fresh from his role as Jessep in “A Few Good Men,” plays Henry Bingham, the agitated CEO of Quail Valley. Ernst is a member of Milwaukee Rep’s resident acting company, where he recently appeared in “Death of a Salesman,” “Cabaret” and “The Seafarer.” He has also played leading roles with American Players Theatre, Madison Repertory, Kansas City Repertory and American Theater Company. Tim Monsion plays the rival club president, Dickie, who places the shifty bet for Crouching Squirrel. Monsion’s credits include “Heroes,” “A Few Good Men,” “Is He Dead?,” “Born Yesterday,” “Rumors,” “The Elephant Man” and many more. Monsion is based in Los Angeles and has appeared in many television programs including a recent role on “Law and Order: Los Angeles.” Karen Janes Woditsh plays Pamela, an overzealous club member that Henry has a crush on. Woditsch returns to the Players for her sixth season where her stage credits include “The Mousetrap,” “Red Herring,” “Rumors,” “Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure,” “A Little Night Music” and “A Few Good Men.” Regionally her credits include work with the Goodman Theatre, Northlight, Chicago Shakespeare and 19 productions with Writers’ Theater. Andrew Keltz is the highly excitable new male assistant on whom Henry leans to save the day. Keltz’s Players credit include “Over the Tavern,” “A Little Night Music” and “A Few Good Men.” Regionally he has performed with Victory Gardens, Marriott Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre and Chicago Shakespeare Theater. Melanie Keller makes her Players debut as Louise, Justin’s bubble-headed girlfriend who is studying Greek. Keller is a company member with First Folio where some of her credits include “Blithe Spirit,” “Private Lives” and “Angel Street.” She also received the Tyrone Guthrie award for her work with Stratford Festival of Canada. The design team creating the country club atmosphere includes United Scenic Artists members Keith Pitts designing the set, lighting designer Jason Fassl and costume designer Nan Zabriskie. Original music and sound design by Joe Huppert with properties design by Sarah E. Ross. Peninsula Players is a non-profit theater and a member of Actors’ Equity Association, the union of professional actors and stage managers, and employs professional actors for all of its productions. Company members work in regional theaters from Los Angeles to New York, as well as in film, television and radio. The Players remaining 2011 season also includes the Wisconsin première of Yasmina Reza’s Tony award-winning comedy, “God of Carnage,” (Sept. 7 – Oct. 16). The Peninsula Players perform Tuesdays through Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 7:30 p.m. with the closing 4 p.m. matinee performance Sunday, Sept. 4.
