Veteran Theater Director Makes Local Debut with Door Shakespeare

Norma Saldivar may be a new director for both Door Shakespeare and the county, but she brings with her a long, impressive list of credits from a successful directorial career.
Saldivar, head of the graduate directing program at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, has signed on to direct Door Shakespeare’s 2012 production of “As You Like It.”
“We are so honored to have this respected Wisconsin theater artist make her Door County directorial debut this summer with our company,” said Terese Boeck, Door Shakespeare business manager.
Considered one of the most talented and prolific theater directors in Wisconsin, Saldivar has directed at the Milwaukee repertory Theater, Skylight Opera Theatre, First Stage Children’s Theatre, Milwaukee Chamber Theatre, Madison Repertory and Next Act Theatre. In 2003, she received a citation at the American College Theatre Festival for her production of “Hamlet” at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.
However, Saldivar’s work hasn’t been limited just to Wisconsin. She has also been a guest artist at the University of Southern California-Los Angeles and the Springer Opera Theatre in Columbus, Georgia.
Norma Saldivar received her B.F.A. in theatre acting from Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington, Ill., and an M.F.A. in theater directing at the University of Illinois-Champaign/Urbana. She is a member of the Society of Directors and Choreographers, New York.
(Door Shakespeare’s 2012 season features two shows presented in the garden at Bjorklunden, near Baileys Harbor, beginning June 29, through Aug. 12: “As You Like It” on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday and Friday; “The Complete Works of Shakespeare (abridged)!” on Thursday and Saturday.
